The villa Umbrian Experience is perfectly situated to visit some of the most beautiful towns in Umbria.
Torri Castle
From the top of an isolated hill overlooking the valley, traversed by S.Terenziano-Bastardo road.
The origins date back to the Stone Age, the period to which they refer the numerous finds of scrapers, knives, hatchets polished green stone, arrowheads, javelin and dagger (weapon made from a very hard stone, flint). The castle was founded in 1250 under the name of Cerqueto, as surrounded by a vast forest of oaks, and later assumed its present name because of a sturdy wall with corner towers suitable for defensive purposes. An arched front door, surmounted by the eagle emblem of Todi, enters inside, where are the houses built on the outer circle. Ugolino III (? -1415), who came to power after the death of his uncle Corrado XII, continued the political control of the territory on behalf of the Holy See (?). He confirmed the peace with Perugia for another hundred years. Before 1500 Torri counted 33 families, often in constant bickering with each other, so that the various popes subjected it alternately in Gualdo Cattaneo and Todi. After the restoration it was enfeoffed to S.Terenziano and aggregated from 1861 to the municipality of Gualdo Cattaneo.
Barattano Castle (2 km/1.2 miles)
It was erected in the thirteenth century with the name of Villa Sant'Angelo in Piscina. It took its later name "for the quality of the fraudulent people who lived there." Encircled by imposing walls (dating from 1452) with a central keep and tall defense towers, some banked, it is a good example of compact military architecture built for purely defensive purposes, derived from the Roman castrum. In 1261 Filippo di Barattano was captain of the people in Todi during “podestaria” of Filippo degli Ugoni da Brescia. From the second half of '300, the castle came under the jurisdiction of the Trinci family. In 1540 the castle sent a worker to Perugia for the construction of the Rocca Paolina. The castle remained for centuries under the influence of Todi: in 1802 it was added to Gualdo Cattaneo, in 1815 to San Terenziano and then, in 1861, again in Gualdo Cattaneo. Reduced in fair condition, it remains fascinating for its structural morphology, characterized by a large wall with medieval entrance door, narrow streets and high towers, some of which show the remains of coverings. In its interior there is the church of St. Bartholomew (XIII century) with frescoes of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and two wooden angels.
Abbey of San Terenziano (San Terenziano, 6 km/3.7 miles)
It is an uncommon example of a Church on two levels: the bottom of the first decades of the eleventh century, the upper rebuilt in the thirteenth century forwarded, when even one below was extended in its front. The lower church is divided into three naves ending in semi-circular apses of equal radius contained in the thickness of the wall. It has vaultes marked by intradosses. The upper church has a single nave, with a gabled roof supported by three arches slightly pointed diaphragm. Because of the Baroque reconstruction they were lost the other three diaphragm arches of which only faint traces in the masonry.

Gualdo Cattaneo (13 Km/8 miles)
Gualdo Cattaneo, "castle perched on the foothills of the Martani Mounts, between Puglia and Attone torrents" is located between the Umbrian valley (the one that runs between Foligno and Spoleto) and the Tiber valley (the one outlined by the Umbrian stretch of the Tiber). About the origins of this castle of ancient name (Gualdum Captaneorum), it is known to indicate the year of foundation in 975 at the hands of the German Count Edoardo Cattaneo. The town, thanks to its geographical position, highly strategic, had, over the centuries, a very important rule. The city of Foligno and Spoleto were interested in its conquest and they contended it, with ups and downs, between them.
